Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is a free to play digital collectible card game by Blizzard based on the Warcraft universe. Hearthstone was initially known as Warcraft Legends and was developed by Team 5 at Blizzard. Until near the end of the closed beta, the team comprised only 15 members.
Hearthstone pits your chosen Hero in a series of one-on-one duels against rival AI or player-controlled Heroes. Players collect cards with Gold and experience earned from matches, or invest real-world dollars. A player wins the game when he reduces an enemy Hero to zero life. The digital tabletop is divided into two halves. You control the bottom half, and your enemy controls the top half. First and second player are determined randomly at the beginning of a match with a coin toss. First player begins with three cards. Second player begins with four cards. Going first does offer a slight strategic advantage, the loser of the coin toss also gets "The Coin", a special zero cost card that temporarily increases your Mana by one. Players may play cards from their hands on their own turn with casting costs up to the value maximum available charge in their Mana Crystals. Players may not play cards during their opponent's turn. Your first turn, you have one Mana Crystal available. a new Mana Crystal is added to your reserve, up to a maximum of ten. Every time you use a Mana Crystal, it is drained until the beginning of your next turn. Mana Crystals refill when a player's turn begins. Propaganda Wars draws a lot of elements from Hearthstone and was my inspiration when our team was trying to figure out how to manage resources for our game. We weren't the only ones to use this mechanic of a mana cost system. The original system I would have to give credit to Magic The Gathering CCG. Overall, these card games provided us with inspiration for the play of our game.
